1985 College Football Season
Regular season
Originally compiled by Jeff79:
- CBS added ACC rights to its B10/P10 package. CBS also had separate deals with Miami, Army, and Navy.
- The football syndication bubble that popped up following 1984's deregulation of college football TV rights immediately bursted:
- SportView, which originally held the Big Ten rights, was sued by the conference for non-payment of fees. (For the 1985 season, the Big Ten awarded its syndication contract to Turner Sports, which simulcast some of the games on the main TBS network,) Indianapolis Star, 11/7/84
- MetroSports immediately renegotiated its deal with the Pac-10 to cut its rights fees by half and later filed for bankruptcy. Spokane Spokesman-Review, 1/25/85 LA Times, 3/22/85
- Katz Sports, which had the rights to the Big 8 and several independents, was acquired by Raycom. Raleigh News & Observer, 6/23/85

Syndicated packages
The ACC continued its package with Jefferson-Pilot, with a bevy of various announcers throughout the season.
In the face of the syndication bubble bursting, Raycom stayed steady in its coverage of the SWC and Big Eight. The SWC with its same crew, and a new crew on the Big Eight. The Raycom-Big Eight deal was troubled by Oklahoma's refusal to participate (it eventually conceded to allow one road game to air) and Nebraska's five-TV-appearance limit as mandated by its radio network contract. Attempts at airing backup games (Oregon-Nebraska on 9/28, Oklahoma State-Missouri on 11/16) fizzled because teams refused to move the kickoffs to 11:30 am local time. This resulted in weeks where Raycom either aired its SWC game in Big Eight markets or no game in those markets at all.
TBS produced and syndicated a package of afternoon Big Ten games, with one game (Northwestern-Indiana) also airing on the cable SuperStation. Illinois and Wisconsin were not part of this package or CBS due to probation which included a live-TV ban.
The Telstar Television Enterprise Network (TVEN) was a syndication package that essentially replaced 1984's packages from Katz Sports (bought out by Raycom) and TCS/Metrosports (who went bankrupt). It covered Notre Dame, Boston College, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh. With MetroSports going bankrupt, Pittsburgh-based syndicator TCS had a smaller package of games of the other Eastern schools.
Home Sports Entertainment continued airing a few SWC games, with more games airing late at night on tape delay. It also landed the Red River Shootout for PPV telecast after ABC passed on it in favor of Penn State-Alabama (and Raycom had already selected another game, not expecting Red River to be available).
Home Team Sports in DC continued to air Virginia/DC/Maryland-oriented games.
