2001 is here.

TV commentator crews as follows, with post season info courtesy Jeff79.

Note: Fox now has rights to all post season games. LDS games were televised by Fox Family. Thursday night games would switch from Fox Sports Net to Fox Family. Also, FX had an alternate feed for markets of the "A" game. However, these were local feeds and as such are not listed (unless the "A" game was postponed).

American League

(Why couldn't Kenny have done Game 3, which was in the same city where he was broadcasting football two days later? I know about coaches' meetings and watching practices, but plenty of other announcers have skipped that stuff in favor of other assignments over the years. My guess is that Fox wanted someone who was unconditionally available to do a decisive Game 5, whether it would have been on Sunday or Monday.)

A look at ESPN's coverage in 2001:

Sunday Night Baseball will make its season debut with a special afternoon telecast from San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 1, as the Blue Jeys take on the Rangers at 4PM Eastern. The series moves back into its normal 8PM Eastern timeslot April 8 when the Dodgers host the Giants. Alvaro Martin will serve as a dugout reporter for selected games. Rick Sutcliffe will fill in for Morgan on Mariners-Indians August 5,

Beginning September 9, ESPN will air the NFL on Sunday nights. To make up for the three weeks of SNB that it would otherwise miss, ESPN will air three Sunday night games on ESPN2 in the regular 8PM Eastern time slot, The games are as follows, with announcers in parentheses:

July 15: Padres-Angels (Dave Barnett, Tom Candiotti)

July 22: Athletics-Royals (Dave Barnett, Rick Sutcliffe)

August 5: Cubs-Dodgers (Brent Musburger, Orel Hershiser)

ESPN will show games relevant to the ongoing pennant races on the final two Sunday afternoons of the regular season (September 30 and October 7). ESPN will show a doubleheader on September 29, while ESPN2 will show a single game on September 29 and a doubleheader on October 7. Miller and Morgan will cover Padres-Giants September 29 (4PM Eastern) and Dodgers-Giants October 7 (joined in progress at 6PM Eastern). Scott Walker will serve as dugout reported for both games.

ESPN's other main night for coverage is Wednesday. The main ESPN will most often have a 7PM Eastern game plus an alternate game. When that's not possible, that telecast will usually (but not always) be moved to the afternoon, with the most common start time being 1PM Eastern. ESPN2 will most often televise a game at 10PM Eastern, although ESPN will take that slot for itself on occasion, The Wednesdays without an ESPN2 telecast are April 18 and September 5. Dates without an ESPN game are May 16 and October 3. ESPN will televise a tripleheader on June 27.

(I apologize for not listing every possible permutation of the Wednesday schedules, but there were too many to list them all, and that's not taking ito account the alternate feeds. The bottom line is, if you checked your local listings on a Wednesday between early April and early October between 1PM and 1AM Eastern, you were liable to find baseball on ESPN and/or ESPN2.)

Special wall-to-wall coverage will be shown on Opening Day (April 2) and each of the three major summer holidays: Memorial Day (May 28). July 4 (Wednesday), and Labor Day (September 3). Coverage begins each day at 1PM Eastern.

There will also be special telecasts on the following days: Monday, September 17 (Brewers-Cardinals, 8PM Eastern), Tuesday, October 2 (Giants-Astros, 8PM Eastern, ESPN2), and a pair of Fridays (September 7 on ESPN2 and October 5, with a doubleheader on ESPN; the second game, Giants-Dodgers, was joined in progress),
