I will resume this series with the 1981-82 regular season. In 1981-82 CBS acquired a share of the regular season rights which had been exclusive to NBC (although CBS had to scramble to arrange a schedule for its inaugural season as NBC still held exclusive rights to certain conferences). CBS also signed Billy Packer away from NBC to be its top analyst. Packer also played a key role in helping CBS put together its schedule.

In general, I intend to show all OTA network games with the caveat that in many time slots NBC ran about 6-7 regional games and I am not listing those. For 1981-82, I will list all CBS games, all NBC national games, plus all cases where NBC had just 2-3 regional games in one time slot.

As always, I will use a * to indicate unknown announcers and I appreciate any corrections, missing announcers. missing games, etc. And, of course, feel free to post any recollections you have of the college hoop TV coverage from this time.

- ESPN carried Maryland-Duke on 1/9, but otherwise ACC games on national cable were on USA Network this season

- The 2/24 Spokeman-Review describes the 2/22 Ore-WSU telecast as being "aborted". The wording from this article does not make it clear whether the telecast was scrapped entirely or partway through.

* any help on missing announcers appreciated

- 1982 was the first year that CBS took over the tournament from NBC.

- CBS introduced 11:30 games on the Thu/Fri nights of the first 2 weekends.

- CBS aired an NBA game in the noon timeslot on Sun 3/14 and only showed a doubleheader of NCAA games.

- A very interesting announcer situation on the 3/14 Idaho-Iowa game... Fred White started this game on pbp with Irv Brown as analyst, but White came down with laryngitis a few minutes into the game. So Brown shifted to pbp (for the first time ever) and George Raveling (Washington State coach) came out of the stands to serve as analyst for the remainder of the game.
