Note: NBC dropped early regional coverage and focused on the wild American League pennant race. Curt Gowdy (Twins-Red Sox) and Jim Simpson (Angels-Tigers) were called upon to work baseball games crucial to the outcome. This last second decision by the Peacock caused the cancellation of the DEN-HOU and MIA-NYJ telecasts, but the NBC affiliate in San Diego carried on with the scheduled telecast, with the NBC fourth string crew of Boda-Angsman.

Now we move on to 1967. We begin with radio in the AFL West:
Raiders: KNEW-AM is in the second year of a three-year contract to carry the entire schedule to a thirteen-station network in California and Nevada. Sponsors include Union Oil, Central Valley Bank, and Grodins of California (clothiers), The pre- and postgame shows will be sponsored by Volvo and the local Lincoln-Mercury Dealers. No announcers were named in the article, but I assume that Bill King was calling the play-by-play by this time.
Chiefs: KCMO-AM will head a forty-five-station network in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri that will carry all scheduled games. Schlitz Beer Wholesalers and Interstate Securities will each sponsor a quarter of each game on the network; the other half is sold locally. On KCMO, sponsors include Fairmont Country Club Dairy, Sanitone Cleaners, and Fleming Company (grocery wholesalers). The pregame Pow Wow will; be sponsored by City National Bank, while the postgame show will be sponsored by Aamco Transmissions. Locker Room will follow the postgame show and will be sponsored by Swift Dodge. Tom Hedrick and Bill Grigsby will call the action.
Broncos: KTLK-AM is in the second year of a four-year contract to broadcast all games. It heads the thirty-two station Intermountain Network in Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Schlitz Beer and Humble Oil have each purchased a quarter of each game on the network; the other half is sold locally. On KTLK the other sponsors are Public Service Company of Colorado and Tynan Town Chrysler-Plymouth. The ten-minute pregame show will be sponsored by Lefty Martin Appliances; the ten-minute postgame show will be sponsored by Keefe Rambler. The fifteen-minute Ask the Coach show will be sponsored by First National Bank of Denver. Bob Martin and Dick Carlson will call the action.
Chargers: KFMB-AM will head a much larger network than ever before: sixteen stations in California, Nevada, and Arizona. The network will carry all games. Lyle Bond and Bob Blum will call the action. Fifteen-minute pre- and postgame shows will be sponsored by the local Dodge Dealers. The games will be co-sponsored by Union Oil Company of California and Home Federal Savings and Loan Association.
Now let's look at the AFL East in 1967
Patriots: WBZ-AM is in the second year of a three-year contract. It's the head of a three-station network that will carry four preseason games and all fourteen regular season games. Sponsors are Volvo, the local Dodge Dealers, Citgo, and Liberty Mutual Insurance. Bob Starr and Gil Santos will call the games; they will also host the postgame wrap-up after the game. Starr will also host a pregame show with Patriots coach Mike Holovak.
Jets: WABC-AM is in the fourth year of a five-year contract to be the team's sole radio outlet. Sponsors include Chevron Oil, Rheingold Beer, Liberty Mutual Insurance, and the local Buick Dealers. Merle Harmon and Dick Young will call the action. The pre- and postgame shows will be sponsored by Worsted-Tex; Young will host the postgame show, while Howard Cosell hosts the pregame show.
Oilers: KILT-AM will feed all scheduled games to a sixteen-station network in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. Phillips Petroleum will sponsor the pre- and postgame shows; the games will be sponsored by Lone Star Brewing, the local Dodge Dealers, Schick Razors, and Southwestern Bell. Bill Enis will call the play-by-play, with Al Jamieson doing color.
Bills: WBEN-FM will carry all games as part of a New York State-wide ten-station network. Marine Trust Company of New York will sponsor various undisclosed segments on the network and half of each game on WBEN. Schmidt's Beer will sponsor anther quarter on WBEN; the rest is sold to participating advertisers (spots). Van Miller will call the games and also host the pre- and postgame shows; no color commentator is listed in the article. The pregame Kickoff show will be sponsored by Milk for Health and Sotre Fixture Sales. The postgame show will be sponsored by Kenmore Motors and Bell Tire and Battery.
Dolphins: WIOD-AM is the head of an eight-station Florida network; the team holds all broadcast eights. Royal Castle Systems will sponsor half of each game; the rest will be sold on a spot basis. Bob Gallagher and Henry Barr0w will call the games. The pregame show will be sponsored by Sheehan Buick. Also airing weekly on WIOD are George Wilson Warm-Up sponsored by the Miami Skyways Motel; The George Wilson Show sponsored by Miami Lincoln-Mercury and Velda Dairies; and Dial the Dolphins, partially sponsored by Velda Dairies. The daily Football for Women Only returns this season, with the wife of Dolphins coach George Wilson giving tips to women about how to appreciate the game., These spots will run three times a day, with Velda Dairies sponsoring.
Local TV Crews
Now let's examine television in the West:
Chargers: The San Diego NBC station is KOGO-TV. KFMB-TV will carry one preseason game; neither sponsors nor announcers were set at press time. KOGO will have a local telecast of the October 1 game between the Chargers and Bills in Buffalo. The telecast will be in black and white. Kickoff is set for 11AM Pacific, with Lou Boda and Elmer Angsman on the call.
Broncos: The Denver NBC station is KOA-TV. Ray-O-Vac Batteries will sponsor the pregame show.
KWGN-TV will televise the Broncos' game in Oakland against the Raiders on September 10. The game will be shown in black and white. Kickoff will be at 2:30 PM Mountain, with Fred Leo calling the action.
Chiefs: The Kansas City NBC station is WDAF-TV. There will be a package of pre- and postgame shows. Sponsors include Contractors Supply Company, Shakey's Pizza, and Household Finance.
KMBC-TV heads an eight-station regional network in Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska that will televise four preseason games. The games will be sponsored locally; on KMBC the sponsors include Falstaff Beer, the local Plymouth Dealers, Wilson and Company, and RCA Victor Distributing Corporation.
Raiders: The Bay Area NBC station is KRON-TV. KTVU-TV Oakland-San Francisco will televise four preseason games. two live and two taped. At least three of them will be seen on KTTV-TV Los Angeles, who were in talks to share their feed of the games with KFMB-TV Sean Diego; the San Diego deal wasn't set at press time. The two taped games will be shown in color. Sponsors and announcers for KTVU weren't set, but KTTV's feed would feature Tom Kelly on play=by-play and be sponsored by Harris and Frank Clothiers, the local Ford Dealers, Phillips Petroleum, and Kellogg's.
Oilers: KPRC-TV, the Houston NBC station, will carry one exhibition game and feed it to a nine-station network in Texas and Oklahoma. Lone Star Brewing is the primary network sponsor; the rest of the time will be sold locally. Sponsors on KPRC will be Trans Texas Airways, Aamco Transmissions, and Kirby Lumber Company. Charlie Jones will call the play-by-play, with Dick Maegle handling color.
Before each regular season game, KPRC will present a half-hour show with Oilers coach Wally Lemm.
Dolphins: WCKT-TV, the local NBC station, will carry one exhibition game live and in color. It will also air a half-hour pregame show before all regular season telecasts. Joe Croghan and Morris McLemore will host the show.
WTVJ-TV will also televise one exhibition game. Bob Gallagher will be on the call.
Jets: WOR-TV will carry all five exhibition games. Three will be live, two on tape. Sponsors are Chrysler, Braniff International, Bankers Trust Company, and Schmidt's Beer. Every advertiser but Chrysler will also sponsor a pregame show. Lou Boda and George Ratterman will call the games.
The New York NBC station is WNBC-TV.
Bills: WKBW-TV will air three exhibition games, with Rick Azar handling the play-by-play. Sponsors are Genesee Brewing, the local Magnavox Dealers, Liberty National Bank. Blue Cross and Blue Shield. and Al Maroone Ford.
The Buffalo NBC station is WGR-TV.
Patriots: The Boston NBC station is WBZ-TV.
