CBS Sports' 1998 Olympic Winter Games broadcast schedule features live Hockey and Downhill Skiing

Time Difference From Nagano, Japan Allows For Live Late Night And Primetime Coverage on the CBS Television Network

With the clocks in Nagano set 14 hours ahead of New York, CBS Sports' broadcast of the 1998 Olympic Winter Games from Japan, Feb. 6-through-Feb. 22, will be afforded many hours of live coverage during both late night and prime time. The CBS Television Network's 128 broadcast hours will feature live coverage of the Opening Ceremony, men's ice hockey, men's and women's downhill skiing events and other live opportunities as they occur. Nagano marks the first time Olympic downhill competition has been scheduled to be carried live in prime time on network television.

Following is the CBS Television Network's current schedule of events to be broadcast (subject to change):

February 6

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET) -- CBS Sports will begin its broadcast of the XVIII Olympic Winter Games with live coverage of the Opening Ceremony from Nagano, Japan.

February 7

(4:00-6:00 PM, ET; 8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 11:35 PM-12:35 AM, ET) -- Previews of the men's downhill competition and women's ice hockey will be shown in the afternoon. Prime time will feature live coverage of the men's downhill as well as coverage of freestyle and cross-country skiing.

February 8

(3:00-6:00 PM, ET; 8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 11:35 PM-12:35 AM, ET) -- Luge (men's), speed skating (men's) and women's ice hockey will be broadcast in the afternoon, while live alpine skiing (Men's Combined Downhill) will be shown with pairs figure skating, snowboarding (men's) and cross-country skiing (men's) in prime time.

February 9

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 12:35 -1:35 AM, ET) -- Weekday broadcast will begin with more live coverage of alpine skiing (Women's Super G). Other events shown will include speed skating (men's), luge (men's singles) and snowboarding (women's).

February 10

(8:00-11:30 PM, ET and 1:05-2:05 AM, ET) -- Prime time will showcase live ski jumping and include pairs figure skating, speed skating (men's), luge (women's), cross-country skiing (women's) and a report on men's ice hockey.

February 11

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 12:35-1:35 AM, ET) -- Freestyle skiing (men's and women's), alpine skiing (Men's Combined Slalom), luge (women's), speed skating (women's), a report on women's ice hockey and a preview of men's figure skating will be shown.

February 12

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 12:35-3:00 AM, ET) -- Continued live coverage of alpine skiing (Men's Super G) will highlight the primetime broadcast which will also include figure skating (men's), speed skating (men's), cross-country skiing (men's and women's), snowboarding (men's and women's) and previews of men's ice hockey and the women's downhill event. Late night coverage will feature live men's ice hockey as USA plays its first game in the "Dream Tournament" against Sweden.

February 13

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 12:35-3:00 AM, ET) -- More live action will be seen with the women's downhill event and late night coverage of USA's second game of the "Dream Tournament" in men's ice hockey. Other events in prime time will include figure skating (ice dancing), speed skating (women's), luge (doubles) and a men's ice hockey report.

February 14

(2:30-6:00 PM, ET; 7:00-11:00 PM, ET and 11:35 PM-2:00 AM, ET) -- Weekend daytime coverage will continue with men's and women's ice hockey (Sweden vs. Canada/Canada vs. USA, respectively) and nordic combined. Primetime coverage will show live alpine skiing (Women's Combined Downhill) and include figure skating (men's), speed skating (women's), cross-country skiing (men's), bobsled (two-man) and men's and women's ice hockey reports. Live men's ice hockey (Russia vs. Finland) will be broadcast in late night.

February 15

(4:00-6:00 PM, ET; 8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 11:35 PM-2:00 AM, ET) -- The afternoon will showcase men's ice hockey, figure skating (men's review and ice dancing preview), ski jumping and a feature on curling. The primetime broadcast will show figure skating (ice dancing), bobsled (two-man) and speed skating (men's). Live late night men's ice hockey action will see Canada take on the USA.

February 16

(1:00-6:00 PM, ET; 8:00-11:30 PM, ET and 1:05-3:30 AM, ET) -- Additional weekday coverage due to the President's Day holiday will include men's ice hockey and cross-country skiing in the afternoon and speed skating (women's), freestyle skiing (men's and women's), figure skating (ice dancing), and live ski jumping in prime time. Late night will feature the gold medal game in women's ice hockey.

February 17

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 12:35-3:00 AM, ET) -- Live freestyle skiing (men's and women's) will be highlighted in prime time. Also broadcast will be alpine skiing (Women's Combined Slalom), short track speed skating (men's and women's), speed skating (men's), a wrap-up of women's ice hockey and a preview of ladies figure skating. The late night broadcast will show live quarterfinal action in men's ice hockey.

February 18

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 12:35-1:35 AM, ET) -- Ladies figure skating (short program) will be showcased in prime time. Alpine skiing (Men's GS), cross-country skiing (men's) and a men's ice hockey preview will also be broadcast.

February 19

(8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 12:35-3:00 AM, ET) -- Ladies figure skating, alpine skiing (Women's Slalom), speed skating (women's), short track speed skating (men's and women's) and nordic combined will be shown in prime time, while semi-final men's ice hockey action will face-off live in late night.

February 20

(8:00-11:30 PM, ET and 1:05-3:30 AM, ET) -- Once again ladies figure skating (long program) will highlight primetime coverage. Alpine skiing (Women's GS), bobsled (four-man), cross-country skiing (women's) and a men's ice hockey report also will be shown. Live men's ice hockey featuring the bronze medal game will be shown during the late night broadcast.

February 21

(1:00-6:00 PM, ET; 7:00-11:00 PM, ET and 11:35 PM-2:00 AM, ET) -- Final weekend broadcasts will begin with speed skating (women's), nordic combined, biathlon (men's), alpine skiing (Men's Slalom preview) and a recap of the figure skating events in the afternoon. Prime time will feature a figure skating exhibition with the medal winners, alpine skiing (Men's Slalom), bobsled (four-man) and short track speed skating (men's and women's). Late night will showcase live coverage of the gold medal men's ice hockey game.

February 22

(12:00-1:00 PM, ET; 3:30-6:00 PM, ET; 8:00-11:00 PM, ET and 11:35 PM-12:35 AM, ET) -- CBS Sports' final day of Olympic coverage will be highlighted by the Closing Ceremony in prime time and include cross-country skiing (men's), a recap of men's ice hockey and an overall review of the Games in the afternoon. The Network's final hour of its 128 hours of coverage will be seen on late night.

Weekday morning broadcasts from Nagano, Feb. 9-13 and 16-20 (7:00-9:00 AM, ET), will be hosted by "This Morning" hosts Jane Robelot and Mark McEwen. Jose Diaz-Balart will serve as field anchor.
