2023 XFL Season
For the first time in three seasons, the XFL is scheduled to play in the spring of 2023.
Vince McMahon, who created the original spring alternative gridiron football league in 2001 only to fold it after one season, revived the league in 2020. It only lasted five weeks until the COVID-19 pandemic was declared. The XFL filed for bankruptcy that summer, and in the fall of 2020, it was purchased by a company owned by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his ex-wife, Dany Garcia.
Five of the eight teams that played in the inaugural season return, but the New York Guardians, Los Angeles Wildcats, and Tampa Bay Vipers do not. The replacement cities are Orlando (taking the Guardians name), Las Vegas (taking the Vipers name and known as Vegas), and San Antonio (called the Brahmas). Also, the name of the Seattle team has been expanded to "Sea Dragons," while the representative portion of the Renegades' name changes from Dallas to Arlington.
Networks associated with Disney will show every game on the schedule. Each team consists of a play-by-play announcer, two analysts (one in the booth and the other on the field), and a sideline reporter.
ESPN Deportes will broadcast 18 games (15 regular season games and all playoff games) in Spanish.
After the season began, ESPN moved eight games to different networks and changed the game times of six of them.
